New Nordic collaboration in quantum technology

Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform (QSIP), Danish Quantum Community (DQC), and InstituteQ in Finland joins forces in pilot project funded by Nordic Innovation

Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform (QSIP), Danish Quantum Community (DQC), and InstituteQ in Finland joins forces in a new pilot project funded by Nordic Innovation called ReCIN.

The goal of the ReCIN pre-project is to identify use cases based on quantum technologies supporting the improvement of resiliency for critical infrastructures in the Nordics. The use cases will be selected to showcase early usage of quantum technologies to improve the resilience of critical infrastructures of importance to the Nordic societies, such as water supply, energy supply, telecommunications, and navigation systems, e.g. GPS and Galileo.

ReCIN is the first time organizations representing the Nordic quantum industry stakeholders in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden come together to formulate a common project. ReCIN is a part of Nordic Innovation’s ‘Resilience and Competitiveness for 2050’ programme.

Strong industry engagement

The pilot project partners will work together in the fall of 2025 with the goal of scoping a larger project proposal to Nordic Innovation, that if succesful in receiving funding will commence in 2026. An advisory board comprising representatives from Kongsberg Discovery in Norway, Fortum in Finland, Volvo AB in Sweden and Ørsted in Denmark will advice the project partners on scoping a larger project.

The project partners will also explore the involvement of an Icelandic and Baltic partners.

How to engage

The ReCIN project partners are looking to identify Nordic use-cases, participants, and technologies that will meet the following criteria:

  • Use-cases that will improve resilience of relevant critical infrastructure in the Nordics
  • Use-cases based on quantum technology
  • Use-cases that is suitable to increase awareness among Nordic end-users
  • Technologies which could be ready for field trial in 2027
